Today, I am reaching out you (everyone who reads this blog) as well as my North Carolina community to ask for help with a cause that is very dear to my heart. As someone who has lost a loved one to cancer, I am passionate about celebrating life!
A few months ago, I became involved with a new local charity called "Help from Hopp", whose mission is quite simple: distribute $50 checks to cancer patients, currently under treatment or within the last year, for them to enjoy a pleasurable “little extra” of their choice—be it a manicure, a full tank of gas, golf balls, a present for a child, a special meal, a foot massage—anything they wish…with no strings attached.
Originally from New York, my family and I moved down to North Carolina to start a new life and open our restaurant, Georgina's Pizzeria. As my way to support the Cary community and to help this wonderful North Carolina charity, Georgina's will be sponsoring and hosting a "Family Food & Fun Raiser" on Sunday, May 17th, 2009, from 12 noon and 3 pm. If you in the neighborhood, please come by!
My intent, however, is to go beyond the event and involve not only local citizens, businesses and organizations as donators, merchant sponsors or corporate sponsors, but extend an opportunity for everyone and anyone to bring a little "joy" to cancer patients.
